She asks Cooper to be her maid of honor, but his objective side meddles to such a degree that seeds of doubt are planted in Violet's head and she proceeds to bolt from the ceremony. Pete follows her and without saying a word, he convinces her to take a leap of faith and the two finally get married.

He had been out of jail on bail after his arrest for ending the life of a patient who was being kept alive by machines. Shonda revealed that the table read detailing Pete's death was a tough one.
After he was born, his mother had trouble bonding with him, so she gave him to his father, who then raised him for most of his first year. After Violet got treatment and started to feel like she could be a good mother, they began to share custody and then got married shortly thereafter.
In the Season Four premiere, Pete popped the question to Violet after a morning of passion. The wedding was set for the following weekend. Violet bolted from the ceremony halfway down the aisle, but was wordlessly convinced by Pete to come back and the two were wed.
It's the morning after. The morning after Pete and Addison didn't sleep together, Violet and Cooper didn't sleep together, and Sam and Naomi did — though no one knows that last part, except, by the end of the night, their priest and, presumably, Addison.
In the season six premiere, Pete's last act did involve going for a run—only it wasn't out of the country. On the morning of his hearing, Pete sent Violet a text saying that he'd gone for a jog, and that he loved her no matter what—a.k.a. the thing a character does right before he or she dies.
